Mission & Vision
Mission
Jason Marque Sole (he, they) created the Institution of Aspiring Abolitionists to educate community members and practitioners about transformative justice and share effective ways of improving relationships and reducing harm through courses, workshops, and training. Through customized abolitionist frameworks, we cultivate connection and collaboration as formerly incarcerated folx, social workers, teachers, business owners, and other neighbors work together to create safer neighborhoods. Participants’ diverse experiences and perspectives offer unique, dynamic ideas and approaches to problem-solving and harm prevention.
Vision
Our liberation work is co-facilitated through several underground networks, mainly the secret Facebook page (which has nearly 2,000 members who receive up-to-the-minute updates). We carry out our mission through Underground Railroad site visits in the US and Canada, year-round political education workshops on transformative justice and prison abolition, and robust collaboration. Since 2021, we’ve educated hundreds of thousands of people. We look forward to purchasing space next year to strengthen our work.
About Jason
Jason Marque Sole (he or they) is a formerly incarcerated abolitionist. He has been a criminal justice educator for over 16 years and is currently an adjunct professor at Hamline University in the Criminal Justice and Forensic Science Department. He has been a national restorative justice trainer since 2008, leading circles in jails, prisons, and community but now uplifts community through transformative justice.
In 2019, he received the John Legend “Can’t Just Preach” award for his work to abolish prisons. In addition, Jason is a core member of Relationships Evolving Possibilities (REP) in which abolitionists answer crisis calls from community members. He is also a multi-published author and international speaker. In August of 2025, he received an 8-0 vote at his Clemency Review Commission, bringing him one step closer to being pardoned.
